Default King MFD-150 vs. MFD-250

I've pretty much narrowed down my multi-function display to one of these two
models (King MDF-150 and MFD-250).

I'd love to hear any comments and/or preferences regarding these.

The 150 has a larger screen but the 250 has a relative terrain mapping
feature (terrain is colored according to your current altitude). They both
interface to a WX-500 Stormscope and have internal GPS, as well as
connecting to my external one (Apollo GX-55).

Price seems to be quite close and while the 150 has the larger screen, the
250 will interface to radar and tcas systems (which I don't currently have).

Thanks for any thoughts,

CGP.

Isn't the 250 the one with the integrated GPS? BTW, many a friend who
do not need ego boosters are using these King displays. They look
great, and for the money, do a good job. Now one of these, with a
KX155 with g/s and a simple IFR GPS/COM would be all the weekend pilot
would need for any IFR work and that occasional trip to vacationland.
With the money you'll save, you can buy that Ferrari!

Thanks. I think you can get both the 150 and 250 with or without an internal
GPS.

These are about 4K cheaper than an MX20 and I think a much better value for
money, at least as far as my flying is concerned.

I've just bought a 1977 C-206 and want to upgrade the avionics package. I'll
eventually (sometime this year) get IFR certified so I'm looking at MFD,
Stormscope, HSI as possible upgrades. But, as you say, there's a lot of "ego
boosting" stuff you could add to it. Trying to cut through all that.

Other than that I don't think the plane needs anything else. It already has
a back-up electric gyro, fuel computer (shadin), horton STOL conversion, IFR
GPS (GX-55), two KX-155 radios, transponder, dme...

Regards,

Carlos.

The 150 is larger, which is a plus.

The 250 is smaller, which is nice for panel space. It's about the
same size as a Garmin 430.

But where the 250 excels is that it can accept datalink for weather
(from the king KDR-510 datalink receiver) and traffic (from the King
KT-73 mode S transponder). That whole package(the IHAS 2000) would
cost around $10,000 plus installation. However, I'm not a fan of the
King products. The datalink is ground based, which has it's
limitations of line of sight if you require weather all the time.

The 150 is a dead-end solution with no expansion other than the WX-500
stormscope, which is why it's so cheap ($3000) with such a large
display.

Both have terrain display, but as posted previously the 250 shows the
terrain relative to your GPS altitude. That's nice. For the extra
money, I'd go for the 250 despite the smaller screen.

Thanks...

I'm in Venezuela, where we won't have any datalink or Mode-S for the
foreseeable (and unforeseeable) future. Would you still go with the 250?

Both screens fit my panel, so fit isn't an issue. Bang for the buck is,
though.

If I were buying to satisfy my ego (and drain my bank account), I'd go with
an MX-20 or Avidyne... however, they seem like overkill for a Cessna 206.

I'm getting a WX-500 which would interface with the MFD. I'm also thinking
of an HSI or EHSI (Sandel or King).

I like the 150's large screen, but then again the 250 offers relative
terrain which seems like it would be useful in an emergency or IFR.

In any case I'll probably wait until Sun&Fun to make a decision... they
should have most systems on display there.

Thanks for your input.
