Default are tshirts exploitive?

Hello all,
As a veteran, I'm not sure how to feel about the following website,
which sells shirts that are "tributes" or "memorials" listing the
names of Americans killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

http://www.cafeshops.com/wegotsaddam/217266

Do you think this is exploitive commercialism or really a decent
tribute?

Follow the money. Where are the proceeds going, and in what percentage?

I think a donation to an approiate orginazation would be better. What about all
my friends and shipmates who died in training or non hostile events? Who but
their friends will remeber them? We all stand on the shoulders of those who
went before us.
I will never forget them.

Someone, somewhere, will produce a tee-shirt for anything. In that
respect, yes it probably is an example of what could be considered
exploitive commercialism. Not withstanding that fact, the question of
whether it is or isn't really a decent tribute lies in the eyes of the
beholders - those who buy and wear the tee-shirt(s), and those who see
them on the people who have bought and worn them.

Of the websites involved, cafeshops.com seems to be the one of the web
equivalents of a general store, same as many software vendors have
their "orders" processed by/through a site like digital river. The
people at the http://www.gotsaddam.us/ site seem to be the ones
actually doing the stuff [there are items other than tee-shirts], and
they aren't being very informative as to the purpose, whether [as
someone else in this thread suggested] any of the proceeds are going
to veteran's charitable causes, etc.

I ran their telephone number through google...The was another Café site
(Spitzer telescope) that shared the same number. I would proceed very
cautiously with a phonecall to verify their intentions before buying. I
know, it is possible to have an interest in veterans AND telescopes, but
caveat emptor. dano
