Bush's Object is to Support and Protect the House of Saud
We have two different threads in the War Against "Terror". They are
working against each other. The one is our efforts to work with the intelligence services of many other countries to destroy Al Qaeda root and branch. We've done a lot of that. A large number of Al Qaeda "middle managers" have been seized, along with some pretty big fish, like Khalid Sheik Mohammed on 3/1/03. He was the operational leader for the attack on the WTC. The other thread is our attack on Iraq and it is not making the world safer for us. By invading Iraq we turned the whole middle east into a recruiting ground for Al Qaeda and its associated groups. So why invade did we invade Iraq? WHY go out of our way to obstruct our own progress in the war? The real reason we invaded Iraq was to cow the Saudi Royal family. But the Bushies don't feel able to state the real reason even now. That's why they pushed the absurd idea that Saddam had WMD and that he was actively seeking to use them on us. That idea is totally discredited, although the Bushies still get many to accept this drivel. Another reason was to help the Sharon government in Israel. That was just a freebie for the Neo-cons. ARE we safer now? No one knows. We have not been able to penetrate the low level Al Qaeda cells at all. Cells in Iraq that were 2 or 3 members, now have 10-15, per Seymour Hersh on "Meet the Press" today. Many lower level officers have moved up into larger spheres. I feel that Al Qaeda does not feel able to strike in the US before 11/2/04. That's why this recent tape of the #2 leader was released. "Neener, neener, we're kicking your ass in Iraq!" Which they are. But they have probably been sufficiently disrupted that they will not strike here. Cheney's comment the other day that if we vote for Kerry we'll be less safe -- will actually invite attack -- was like the statement of a lawyer in a court room who makes a statement knowing full well it will be stricken upon objection, but that he wanted very much for the jury to hear it. One real question is why we should give the Bushies another chance when THEY were on watch at the time of 9/11. People surely haven't forgotten that the presidential daily briefing for 6 August '01 said Al Qaeda was trying to strike in the US with suicide airplanes. Bush did nothing. It's now been revealed that when Tenet heard about the planes hitting the towers he said something like: "I hope it wasn't any of these guys who were taking flying lessons." The Bushies are grotesque failures. But they are just flat lying and obfuscating the record. And the Media DO report it. But a large number of people are giving them a pass on their disastrous performance. So will the two functions cross each other? Are we able to snuff out the Al Qaeda (and its associated groups) cells faster than we create them through our maladroit policies undertaken to support the Bushs and their relationship with the House of Saud? It IS the case that American servicemen and women will continue to die to support the private interests of the Bush family. Walt |
