Default KX170B glideslpoe

I have a KX170B with a faulty coms. I sent it to Honeywell and they sent it
back saying unserviceable. So I bought a used one off ebay and it works
really well. My question is regarding the Glideslope. I have a glideslope
in my original radio but the new one does not. I opened both units up to
compare and they look identical, no "extra" little circuit card in the
original for the GS function. So my questions:
- Is the GS function in the radio or in the head?
- If the GS is in the head, is there any changes/adjustments in the radio
for the GS, as my GS used to work in the original radio.

Thanks,
Ken

I believe that in most installations providing glideslope the KX-170B is
either paired with a KN-214 indicator that has a built-in GS receiver or
with a KN-109 indicator and remote KN-75 GS receiver. In both cases, the GS
receiver is "channeled" from the KN-170B. I suspect that (the channeling
connections between the KX-170B and the KN-75 or KI-214) is where your
problem lies.

The KX170 series did not have an internal glideslope to the radio itself. It
provided glideslope channeling to either the glideslope in the nav head or to a
remote gs receiver that drove a nav head.

The KX170 is about as bulletproof a radio as it gets. I'm seriously thinking
about setting up a fixit bench for 170s. (Flame away, but then read part 43
about FIXING as opposed to CALIBRATING.)

What will you take for the busted 170 for me to practice on? And, does anybody
have an extra KX170 rack or just the connector? It is an oddball Amphenol
connector and they are somewhat scarce.
