Default Please help me choose a handheld VHF NAV/COM

I've had the Sporty's for a year, works great.

I'm looking for a VHF Nav/Com handheld. I will primarily be using it
as a backup, with occasional use on-field, out of the plane.

Since it'll mostly sit in my flight bag, I'd really like to use
alkaline batteries, for battery shelf life. The option to use a
rechargeable pack would be nice, but not a top requirement. In the
plane, I'd like to plug a standard, dual plug headset in, adaptors are
OK.

I've looked at Vertex, Icom, and several other units. I can't find a
Sporty's locally to inspect. The prices and feature lists seem to be
all over the place.

What do you like and dislike about the handheld(s) you own?

I haven't found a lot of user comparisons via Google.

Thanks!
Barry
