Default Video from flights on Saturday

Hi,

I have uploaded the video from my flights on Saturday. It is best viewed at
720p.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VvRD...ature=youtu.be

It was not a good soaring day but it was a very smooth day - which was
perfect for taking my mom and dad for rides. We were flying in a DG-1000S
sailplane from Stanton Airfield in Stanton, Minnesota where I am a member of
the Minnesota Soaring Club.

I wanted to test my Replay XD1080 video camera so I mounted it on the top of
the tail of our DG-1000S sailplane. It can record in 1080p resolution, but I
set it for 720p to get a wider viewing angle. It was boring to watch in
real-time so I sped it up by a factor of 20 using Adobe Premier Pro CS4 and
added a soundtrack.

Very nice Paul. Replay XD1080 looks to take great video.

Since we are sharing videos from Saturday, here is a video I put together of my run in the Duo up the Sierra Crest from Cal City.

Sorry Paul, not impressed with the clarity of your Replay XD video, edges are all fuzzy, is that a result of speeding up the video? Here's a GoPro video also taken from outside the cockpit:

Hi Herb,

The video looks only OK for several reasons.

- I shot it at 720p rather than 1080p because the viewing angle is wider at
720p. I'll try again soon at 1080p.
- It was an overcast day. You can't compare it with videos shot on sunny
days.
- The video looks jumpy because it was sped up 20 times.
- We don't have lovely mountains here in Minnesota - making it somewhat
boring when compared to videos from the Western USA or the European Alps.

The cylindrical shape of the RePlay XD1080 is nice for mounting on the top
of the tail. I would think that a GoPro would add a lot more drag.

I'm sure GoPro units are great products. Their shape would probably work
better (lower drag) mounted out on the wing looking back toward the cockpit.

Best Regards,

Paul Remde

There is quite a comprehensive comparison on
http://www.dropzone.com/news/Gear/Be... ewed_854.html

Made by someone who is both a skydiver and a pro cameraman.

As with all things the compromise you chose, determines the results you get.
