fuel monitor
I'm leaning towards installing a fuel flow monitor.
Either the JPI FS 450 or the Shadin Microflo-L Since I have only a 2 1/4 hole open I've kind of settled on one of these two. Any comments pro or con? Thanks Paul N1431A S44 |

Any comments pro or con? I have the Shadin in my COZY MKIV. It works great and is easy to use, and seems to be VERY accurate. With no calibration (just as it came out of the box) it's usually within 0.1 gallons on a 50 gallon fillup. I have it patched into my Garmin 195 output, and it gives useful MPG, fuel to dest., etc. information. It did crap out on me once, and rebooted itself every 3 seconds or so, but I sent it back, they found a cold solder joint, fixed it, and had it back to me in about 2 weeks. No charge, under warranty. I have no experience with the JPI unit or the company. -- Marc J. Zeitlin http://www.cozybuilders.org/ Copyright (c) 2005 |

We have a Shadin Mini-FLow in our Mooney and it works great. There is
also functionality for the newer Shadin units that can pass data to a GPS such as a Garmin 430. JPI has been getting brutalized os of late because they were going to start charging folks to translate their raw JPI flight data into something readable. Whatever you decide to do I believe that a fuel flow monitoring system is one of the smartest and cheapest upgrades in aviation. Any comments pro or con? I don't buy JPI. George Patterson Drink is the curse of the land. It makes you quarrel with your neighbor. It makes you shoot at your landlord. And it makes you miss him. |

George,
This thread shows the power of the consumer in the age of the internet quite nicely... -- Thomas Borchert (EDDH) |

I have the JPI on my Arrow - works great, never had a complaint about
their service or support. |

I too, like to vent my comments about cust. support (read Garmin) but I did
get the new JPI EzTrends FREE for the download, tech support on a new laptop that was complaining about the download. (USB is the norm. Serial is what JPI does, hence the converter.) Can't sat that I've had bad service. The product works as advertised and if you include fuel flow with the engine analyzer, you save the hole and get the full features of the JPI. Having used EI & JPI, I'd say the JPI has better features and no complaints about the support. YRMV, {|;-) Victor J. (Jim) Osborne, Jr. "Paul kgyy" wrote in message oups.com... Having used EI & JPI, I'd say the JPI has better features and no complaints about the support. Then you came in at the end. JPI went thru a whole process to make it impossible to read the data that used to be readable with a simple prorgam that every computer had. They then made you send them your data and they would send it back to you in a readable format. After all the bitching they made the program available to you for free so if you don't know the backstory you think it's a great deal. But that isn't even the worst of it. Their attitude towards their customers is horrible. I still belong to the Cessna Pilots Assoc and on their message boards the president of the company has dozens of messages there basically saying to kiss my ass. If you don't like it buy something else. You couldn't have written a better script on how not to treat customers. EI is laughing all the way to the bank. |
