Default Tablets with capability for olc uploading

I am interested in replacing my laptop with one of the newer tablets on the market.
Which of the newer tablets have the capability to upload to the olc, perhaps with a mini usb connection or similar?
My only other uses would be checking email and the ability
to browse the web, so I do not need something with lots of computing power.

Thanks for any reccomendations, Joe

This is an emerging need.

You can get an iPad or an Android tablet, istall SeeYou Recorder on it to record your flights (http://tinyurl.com/recorder-android or http://tinyurl.com/recorder-iphone-ipad) and go. SeeYou Recorder is good for a "blue V" at OLC.

After the flight you can upload your flight through the normal OLC website or its tiny version www.olc-pda.org

If you have a flight recorder which can store flights on an (micro)SD Card and would like to upload those then you have to get an Android tablet with a suitable SD card slot. No such thing as an SD Card slot on an iPad I'm afraid.

I notice the nexus 7 has a mini usb port.

Is it not possible to get a mini to full size usb adapter cable, then you could port your usb stick directly to the nexus and upload your flight?

I do not wish to fly with it, only want to use it to upload my flight.

With an http://www.airstash.com/ device, you'd be able to use a Google Nexus 7 or an iPad to upload to the OLC from an SD Card. So, if your logger uses SD (EW or LX Nano), you'd be all set.

The iPad will give you better access to XCSkies weather than the Nexus 7 would, which is a tragedy because the Nexus 7 is a better choice in just about every other way.

It further pains me to say that a used iPod Touch with the AirStash might be even better still, if pocketability is more important to you than a 7" or 11" screen.

Cheers,

Rob

Default Tablets with capability for olc uploading

Hi Rob,
Interesting post.
For the last months, I have been looking for a device that would let me use my iPhone to upload LX8000 generated flights files.
From what I understand, AirStash will copy my SD stored igc file into the iPhone memory. But then, when you go into the OLC website, how do you select it from Safari browser?

Maybe I am missing something, but could you explain how did it work for you?

Thanks,

For OLC IMHO it's easiest to use Android device and XCSoar for
logging and then uploading to OLC. I suppose WinPilot running in
iPhone will be able to do the same, but I do not have experience on
that.

Logger with Bluetooth connection would be a nice feature. We have
IGC approved FLARMs with Soartronic BT modules, so we can
download IGC files using XCSoar. (XCSoar can also declare tasks
to FLARM logger, and show FLARM traffic on moving map during the
flight).

I believe you need a file manager app to be able to select a file to upload in an Android device. There are few free apps available in the Google Play store.

.... or you use the Opera browser on the Android device, which lets you choose the file directly without any additional file manager app
