Default Looking for JPI's older software to download engine monitor data to a PC

Somehow I have misplaced my copy of the older JPI PC software that allows
me to download data from a JPI EDM-700 monitor to my laptop. I called JPI
for a replacement copy, but they no longer offer the older version. I was
told that the new version does not allow the data to be converted to Excel
format so it really does me no good.

Does anyone have a copy of the previous version of this software? If so, I
could really use your help, as I am breaking in a new engine and would
really like to download the data for more detailed, post-flight analysis.

My email is (remove the capital letter).

I have both the dos and windows version. Send me an e-mail at

suffixes.

I sent an email to JPI tech support asking why their software would
no longer support the export of data into a standard format that could
be used by other programs. The response was that their software now
performs every function that anyone would want, so there is no need to
be able to convert the data from their proprietary format.

Frankly, I'd expect such a ludicrous response like that from a second
rate software vendor, but not from an avionics hardware vendor. I
want a little flexibility in how I manipulate MY engine data.

I was 2 weeks away from buying an EDM-700 when I found out about
this. Now EI is getting my money.

I also asked them recently if they would produce a download process for
the Windows CE system, since more and more pilots are switching to
ipaqs with the demise of the Palm network. Same kind of response. I
have the JPI700 and like the equipment but sure don't like their
attitude.

Is EI any better, I wonder?

JPI is a ridiculous company, from many points of view. (IMHO) There was a
boycott movement in the homebuilder's world a few years back, based on how
they sued a smaller company on grounds of copyright infringement, on what
most say was as sham of a suit. The smaller company was driven out of
business. (all this is from memory, but the basic idea is there)

Choose other people's products, when ever possible. Just an idea.

Any other people want to weigh in, on satisfaction, or dissatisfaction on
JPI?

Well, strictly from a utility PoV, I am *extremely* happy with the JPI
EDM-700 engine monitor. Additionally, I have had to call JPI twice with
some minor tech support questions and the reps with whom I spoke were very
friendly and happy to help.

Tonight I just got back from an hour-long Gami lean test flight and the JPI
engine monitor was truly an incredible asset in performing this test. With
it I have learned that the engine roughness I am experiencing at optimal
lean of peak (Tornado Alley turbo-normalized IO-520) is not a result of
clogged or improperly calibrated Gami Injectors on this newly rebuilt
engine.

This is one very valuable piece of equipment.

The other company is still in business.

I have been extremely pleased with my JPI engine monitor and with
support from the company. Besides their lawsuit against EI, why are
they ridiculous, in your opinion?
