"Mitchell Holman" wrote in message . 130... I'm not sure where you got the nickname "Fat Albert" for the pictured aircraft but "Fat Albert" was the unofficial nickname for the C5A Galaxy. Then in the late 1970s the Air Force issued policy statements to the effect that it was not an "appropriate" nickname.... DaveD |

DaveD "The Blue Angels use a United States Marine Corps C-130T Hercules nicknamed "Fat Albert" for logistics, carrying spare parts, equipment, and to carry support personnel between shows. They also use "Bert" for a short aerial demonstration just prior to the jet demonstration at selected venues. "Fat Albert Airlines" flies with an all-Marine crew of three officers and five enlisted personnel." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Angels |

The first KC-130F replaced the Blue Angels C-121 in 1970. The Marine flight crew named it Fat Albert after the Bill Cosby cartoon. When it was replaced with another C-130 1973, the Fat Albert name stayed with the aircraft. |
