Default Cedar Rapids to New Orleans

I'm currently in the Cedar Rapids, IA area and would like to move my
plane from the New Orleans area up here. Any chance anyone might be
going down there and I could hitch a ride with them? I'm a VFR pilot
and I would hate to schedule a commercial flight 2 weeks in advance
only to find that the weather had turned crappy and I wouldn't be able
to fly it back.

Oh, Houston area would also work since I can catch a ride from Houston to
New Orleans if it is during the weekends...

Dang, I wish I could find the time -- sounds like a great trip...

Maybe we can do this in relay shifts? I'll get you to, say, St. Louis, and
then someone else can take you from there to Vicksburg, and so on?

Might take a while, but it would sure be fun!

Stand at the runup area with a hooked thumb with a sign saying "MSY" in big
block letters? grin

I've seen stranger things at airports.

Usually commercial ones, admittedly...

I'd be more then happy to do the "last leg" from MBO (near JAN) to whatever
airport in the New Orleans area. *smile*

The hooked thumb approach would be kind of like a MAC flight... grin

I can't help you at all with this problem, but I am curious:
is NEW a reasonable place to base a light plane? What sort of
fees do you pay there to tie down?

Actually, I'm based on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain at ASD...
While on my DoD contract for the Navy, it was near NEW, so I was able
to sometimes fly to work... Didn't save *that much* time over driving,
but it was nice anyway... My plane at ASD was perhaps 1-1.5 miles from
my front doorstep... Not quite a fly-in/fly-out community, but close
enough...

The main airport in New Orleans is MSY, not NEW... I've flown into both
though...

ASD is around $75 per quarter, if I remember correctly...
