Default Region 7 Contest

Calling all pilots -

Please join us for the Region 7 Contest at the beautiful Albert Lea MN.

The contest practice day is Saturday May 20 and the contest runs from Sunday May 21 through Saturday May 26.

This is a very well run contest. The CD is Geoff Weck and the CM is Leon Zeug.

Minnesota can have booming conditions in May.

The contest area is very novice friendly with lots of airports in the area. Plus, most of southern MN and northern IA is landable as it is freshly planted corn that has not sprouted yet. (Unfortunately, I've proved that in previous contests)

The classes are 18m, 15m, Standard, Sport, and Low Performance. Yep, bring your Ka-6 or PW-5 and have a great time soaring in a contest.

The airport is great. The airport manager, Jim Hanson, loves to support soaring and offers fabulous meals in the hangar 3 times during the contest.

We hope to see you at the Region 7 contest!

Lou - for the CM

Default Region 7 Contest

Attn: Region 7 Pilots

Might I suggest R6N (held June 30 - July 7 in Adrian, Michigan) will be a nice compliment to the R7 races in Albert Lea, MN.

For those of you who've reached a station in life where you can afford to get away and fly for a couple several weeks this summer, R6N (Sandhill and Adrian soaring clubs) will be co-hosting the 2018 US Junior Camp Contest along with its regional sports and club class contests.

This will be a good opportunity for some of you to hone your racing skills and/or give back to the sport. Many of you can learn from the camp's morning lecture series. Likewise competing amongst college age students who are eager to perform well among the most experienced of racing pilots is a reward in and of itself.

While the 'adults' wont be competing directly with the Juniors, those racing in sports or club class might compare their average speed and distance to those traces flown by some of the Juniors. I assure you, you'll be quite impressed with how far such a young group of talented Junior pilots have come in just one year since the 2017 camp. I can also tell you, the Juniors will certainly appreciate having a benchmark to which they can compare themselves to. There's no substitute for having caring mentors who encourage the Juniors' efforts and seek to propogate their knowledge and love for this sport.

This humble group has an exceptional disposition and clearly wants to learn.. Please take this opportunity to consider how your participation might help grow the sport and how you can help promote Junior soaring here in the Midwest.

It's highly suggested you encourage local youth (i.e., club members back home) to participate as crew (especially those under age 14) or register for the U.S. Junior Camp Contest either as a Junior contestant (flying solo) or a Junior pilot (ages 14-25), who'll be assigned to a 17 or 20m two-seat advanced trainer being flown by one of our camp's instructors.

For more information, please contact Chris Schrader (Region 6 Director) by visiting www.R6N.org and sending a message through the website. Nowhere else can a Junior fly a Duo Discus, DG1000, or an ASK-21 in a contest for $200/week including tows, entry fees, instructional materials, and room and board (yes, that's 3 square meals a day).
