Default New Castle Region 4S Practice day #711 reporting.

The cannon was fired, at 10 am and the pilots meeting was
called to order. Patty Smith, the contest manager said a brief "HI" and
then introducted the CD Dick Butler. Dick explained it was important to
be nice to the CD, as he has always been, as someday you may be the CD.
Cough, heazeeeeeeeeeeeee. Oh, its my allergies here folks.
A AST was caled of 75 miles for all 3 classes, with a start
when you want. Our weatherman gave a brief talked, tigger of 79, max of
81. Whew, that's close. So our practice day begins, with the tigger at
about 1, so we rolled them at 12:30 or so. KS was first to lauch, he
stayed, others began.
Well, as the day got going, some took relights, others got
another areo tow retrieves, some waited for their crews in fields, and
others just came back and landed at New Castle. I rolled last, hear the
chat on 123.3, yawned again, and landed back at New Castle. Ha, I had
to check a gear door for ......hm......proper fit.
One was asked how his day went. Slow climbs followed by
brave glides, over several times got him around. 4-5 thousand with weak
climbs was what I heard from most. Then came the quacking 3 ducks. See,
they found wave, to 13,500 ft. Flew the course without turning, and
were not and will not turn in the IGC files, as they wish to keep the
wave area to themselves. Ya, sure, where you get that driver's license
at""Penny's, or Sears??""
Me thinks the bang from the cannon moved whatever this
morning. Oh, as in the past Ed Byars is here, flying with KS again. His
reports on KS are awaiting to be told. I will past them on. Several
years ago, KS had Ed with him at the Seniours in Seminole. As they were
landing at not the home airport, and the gear warning was sounding,
yep, they landed gearup. As they stopped, Ed said to Karl. ""You didn't
have to show me that, I already knew how to land gear up"". Yep, but
the DG 1000 was having a problem, and it really wasn't anyone's fault.
Tomorrow's first contest day. You still have a shot to get
here, so dance to the traveling music. We had a friend drop in late
last night from AZ. Paul Cordelle has been coming since 1984, just to
be here and help out. Dinners, the people, and the whole crowd are alot
of fun with a rich history, is what is to be found.
As in my travels across the country, all the folks care
and share their time with our sport. Times have been not always smooth
and some times funds have been low, and most will remember about "Red"
writing about the US Team needing some funds, and giving up a 5 buck
lunch. Alot did, and we got through it. I am just the messenger, but
its us, so give it some thought.
So whereever you are, whenver you can, and you have that
chance, may you ..................Thermal tight, Soar high, and Fly
safe. # 711 reporting.
