Default Silent 2 pure sailplane soars 900+km / April 24th

Dave Stevenson flew over 900km (560 miles) on Sunday
April 24th in a Silent 2 pure sailplane. He began the
flight in the northwest corner of his home state of
Georgia, went to his first turnpoint at the northern
edge of the Sequatchie Valley in Tennessee, headed
south into Alabama to his second turnpoint near Fort
Payne, then north again to his third turnpoint back
in the Sequatchie near Dunlap, Tennessee. After reaching
Dunlap, he headed east south-east for Charleston, South
Carolina and the atlantic Ocean by crossing over the
southern end of the appalachian chain. Nine and one
half hours after the start he landed at Hampton, SC.
Preliminary statistics are 59 mph average cross-country
speed, 28% thermalling time with average 370 fpm climb,
49.7 L/D, and 61 glides with 85 mph average glide speed.

Outstanding accomplishment in a 13 meter ship.

Congratulations to Dave.

Way to go Dave!
Didn't you do something similar to this a few years ago in the 1-34 (or
was it the DG?)

I didn't even take my ship to the field Sunday. Stood around yakking for
awhile, went home and mowed the lawn. Missed Perry, didn't try on
Sunday, Please excuse my while I go shoot myself...
