But the Yenc compression has very real advantages in terms of enhanced
resolution but with reduced file size; for newsgroup users who
download binaries, in fact, it's a real service.

Here's a jpg of size 263Kb - no yEnc.

Default How to decrypt yEnc? - "7832-test.jpg" yEnc (1/1) 270112 bytes

This file was encoded with the new yEnc encoding scheme, designed to save
bandwidth by dramatically reducing the 30%+ overhead incurred by UU and Base64.

I didn't expect that much of a saving by sending that file in Yenc. As you
probably know jpg files are already heavily compressed so that was a
surprise. The sooner Outlook Express can read these Yenc files the better.

yEmc seems to be some sort of crypto - how do U see it?

Well, you can use a real news-reader... ;o)

The best one (and I tested a lot of softs before to chose mine), in my
mind, is "Mes News". You can find it the http://www.mesnews.net/gb/
(free and in English)

Real ADVANCED! going through three programs just to see a picture. Grow up.
My solution is to put all yenc posters in the kill file.

If you are using OE, just save the message in a file. Then go online and
get the free program called NewzToolz. After you have decoded it using
the program, just change the extension to whatever it should be - jpg,
pdf, chm or whatever the file says it is. When you are ready to learn a
bit more of the advanced ways of doing it, there are other programs you
can use.

For OE, use an inlone decoder such as yProxy from Brawnylads.

...or we could just shoot the people that post in yEnc... Either one
works...

I agree. Don't know about Mes News but I've used Pan (on Windows) just
because it supports yEnc natively. I got tired of OE bogging down the old
tired PII box I had; it spent its 400 MHz looking for hyperlinks! Pan solved
that easily.

Feel free to try Mes News. I'm sure you will be amazed by this soft,
light but very powerful. It can even run on an USB key! I really don't
understand why some people continue ro use OE...
