Default Killfiles redux

If your newsreader handles regular expressions (regex) in its killfile
setup, set "if "newsgroup" contains" to:

([^,]+,){2,}

That will kill off any articles crossposted to 3 groups or more. Then
it's just a case of picking off the remaining couple of lunatics and
life is back to normal. I just checked the post nunbers for the past
couple of days: near 800, of which over 600 were crossposted garbage.

Am I correct in my assumption that this trick will not work in Outlook
Express?

Doesn't seem to work in Agent, either. All I see for choices are
Author and Subject.

Thanks for the tip. I just killfile every screen name that cross posts.
That clears out the trolls and the idiots that don't remove NGs before
they reply.

That should simulate posting to notepad pretty quick.

I spent an hour trying to get it to work in Agent, no joy :-(

It's a marvelous thing. Dropped from ~500 posts the last time I
attempted to download news, to around 30.

Oops. Sorry guys. I don't use a PC and it didn't occur to me that a
basic selector like a newsgroup name wouldn't be available in your
reader's killfile setup. On the bright side, it means you'll never have
to learn how to do regex... (I'd drop the Agent people a line and ask
them to drop it in their next release. It's not exactly difficult to
implement.)

Having never done it, but being an avid user of Agent, I did what few
of us seldom think of....I looked in "Help".

It's explained there, but it will take a bit of geekery to understand
the syntax of the expressions. Start by going to the Window menu and
choosing Usenet filters. Then select "new filter" and behold, you'll
get the chance to build your own custom filters, not limited to author
or subject kill-filing.

Not if the filter is applied only to the rec.aviation.military.*
hierarchy.
