Seeking canopy covers for V2C

I'm looking for an "express" or "sock" style canopy cover for my V2C,
for use when I'm gridded in the desert sun. (I don't even know if they
exist, as there may be an issue with closing the canopy over a layer of
material.) This cover is more intended for sun screen than canopy
protection.

I'm also looking for a new "factory" style (heavy dudy) cover to use
for overnight tie-downs. I don't like the one that came with the glider
because it's thin and doesn't seem to provide much protection, and the
way it secures with straps that go behind the wing trailing edges (and
get caught in the flaperons), under the wings and over the canopy top
is a PITA.

If you're trying to keep things cool and want to do so with minimal expense
and storage room taken, use my "space blanket" inside sun shield. To make
this:

Use any space blanket (but the gold ones look cool). Cut a bit large to the
approximate dimensions of the inside of your canopy. To do this, one way is
to open the canopy, spread the space blanket out over the opening,
overlapping the fuselage, then simply close the canopy. Now you can mark
around the perimeter with a felt tip.

Cut out the sunshield with scissors. On the inside of the canopy frame,
place small tabs of Velcro - - the loop side will not grab a cloth while
cleaning inside of canopy.

Next, attach two hook side tabs to the sunshield, one fore and one aft.
Next, reinforce the sunshield by placing larger pieces of white cloth tape
on the opposite side of the sunshield film, covering the area where the
Velcro tabs are attached. This will prevent the sunshield from tearing, as
you grasp the tape reinforced "laminated" area when removing.

Repeat, adding two Velcro tabs on each side of the canopy frame along the
bottom edge, again one fore and one aft.

The resulting sunshield will fold up into just a few inches and will keep
the canopy cool. I first heard the basic idea for this from Al Martini - -

Get a car windshield cover of the type that uses a spring steel loop
covered with silvered nylon. Be sure to get the type that has two
separate hoops, and not two that are attached.

You fold these by twisting the loop and it shrinks down in size to
about a dinner plate.

Put this on the inside of the canopy using the springiness to press
against the plexi just above the canopy rail. Position the front just
above the instruments and the rear will be near where your face would
be.

I've found this covers enough to keep things cool, and in my forward
hinged canopy, it even stays put with it open while a breeze blows
through. When folded, it fits neatly in the top of my baggage
compartment.

Franklin Fabrication sells a fitted canopy cover for just this
purpose.

It is made of Mylar coated stretch fabric and secures without straps

via elastic gathering like a shower cap. Very good heat and sunlight

reflection. Quick removal on the grid and easy storage in the
glider.
