"France downplays jet swap with Russia"
France downplays jet swap with Russia
France says recent joint maneuvers in which Russian and French pilots flew each other's aircraft were not an effort to help Russia join NATO or the European Union, but simply "in the interest of world peace and cooperation." http://www.washtimes.com/world/20030...2731-6790r.htm IIRC, USAF pilots flew most of the European and Asian Air Force planes - except the U.S. Navy, hehe. The French have had exchange programs with the USSR since the 1970s when
MiG-23s would visit France and Mirages the USSR. "Mike" wrote in message om... The historical reason is that French pilots flew with the flying regiment
'Normandie' (later Normandie-Niemen) against the nazis in USSRr during ww2. Due to the great success of this squadron, Stalin allowed the group to get back to France in 1945 with its YAK3 fighters. The squadron still exists and flies Mirage F1CT in Colmar Meyenheim. French pilots and their russian counterparts remained 'friends', even during the dark days of cold war. They participate in exchanges with the russians since the 70s and maybe earlier. A good deal to evaluate russian aircrafts at this time. MICA and Mirage 2000 do the job not AMRAAM and F16. |

This is such a disappointment : I thought Mr. Bremer was a too much ordered and efficient administrator to lose invoices. Well, that's what I had read in every French newspaper, but I guess they were wrong. Again... Wait a minute... It's a more than 20 years old story?... The plant has been destroyed in 1981? The US were also supporting this evil regime in the 80's? France did kick Hussein's ass in 1991 alongside with the entire planet under a UN mandate?... The French *people* has nothing to do with it?... Oh, OK then... ArVa, Citizen of France, established circa 1000 AD, official scapegoat of the United States of America's government by special appointment of His Republican Highness Donald Rumsfeld. |
