Flight time would be about 1 hour, 80-120 miles.
Some candidates I've been looking at a Max Holste "Broussard" Grumman G-44 Widgeon DHC Beaver The water landings will be in a protected cove or leeward side of an island not in the surf. A surf company has taken this on a much larger scale with an Albatross. http://www.billabongclipper.com/clipper/main_page.html |

So, assuming you won't be able to refuel at the destination you are looking at maybe fuel for 3 hours with comfortable reserve. Say, 42 gallons for a Cessna 206. That's 252 lbs, so what you would need is a 206 with amphibious floats and a useful load of about 1250 lbs. I have heard about some Wipline conversions that will ALMOST deliver that number. If that won't do I think you are looking at a DHC Beaver, which would definitely be a handful for a low time pilot. The other thing with a 206 is, how many people are you going to carry? To haul the surfboards, you will probably have to pull out some of the 6 seats. -- -Elliott Drucker |
