It sounds like a great idea. I would sign up for it today but its not
offered at my local airport. I can't see anything wrong with allowing
those that submit to a complete background check to go through "pre
9/11" security (metal detector etc), vs. what we go through today. I've
often spent more than 45 minutes waiting in line at airports waiting
for all this extra security.

Remember that background checks only determine part of a subjects history.
IIRC, other than expired visas, the 9/11 hijackers would have passed
background checks.

If you want a perfect system then everyone should strip nekkid to
include invasive body cavity searches, a scan that sees any bad things
in their bodies, and complete searching of all luggage, contents etc.
That will grind the US air transport system to a near halt.

None of them suicidal, I believe. They would attempt to get a bomb on board
other than by walking on with it or in any way that might give themselves
away. The point being that I think background checks in conjunction with
other security protocols re passengers and baggages would be adequate to
deter threats from that class of bombers.

Sure, but it would also help generate more early diagnoses of various
cancers and such.
