Fun at the Regionals

Soaring magazine has a page titled “Remembering the past�, with 75 years ago, 50 & 25. This month told of Region 11, 1994 regionals. It was a 2 weekend affair and the first Sundays forecast looked Blum, so the 15 meter pilots got together and all decided not to fly, packed up and went home, all except Sergio. Later that day, Jerry McCormick, our CD, changed the task and most of the Standard and Sports guys completed the task, including one 15 meter pilot, Sergio who flew just because he loved to fly, but he didn’t turn in his film.
At the next weekend pilots meeting, we made up a bogus score sheet that showed Sergio with 1000 points and the rest of 15 meter class with ZERO points! As the 15 meter guys were getting ready to kill Sergio, Jerry passed out the task sheet showed 188 miles for Standard, 3.5 hours for Sports class and a 6 mile out and return for 15 meter class! .................Jerry let them deal with rage and humiliation for about 5 minutes, then let them in on the joke!
