BUFFs - index.jpg (1/1) [49K]
I thought these might be of interest here - a fairly arbitrary
selection of USAF pictures of B-52s for no particular reason other than that I'd drawn them togther. You may have seen all, some or none of them before. -- |

I don't think so. |

Here's the official caption from the AF website.
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM -- Ground crew members wave at a B-52H Stratofortress bomber as it taxis for take off on a strike mission against al Qaeda terrorist training camps and military installations of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2001, during Operation Enduring Freedom. The carefully targeted actions are designed to disrupt the use of Afghanistan as a base for terrorist operations and to attack the military capability of the Taliban regime. JT Wow! -- by comparing the photo with the "Google Maps" aerial view of DG the position of the a/c can be approximated. It looks like it's pointed NW and is just south of the halfway point of the taxiway. I compared features such as the mowed grassy area on the far side of the road in the background and the white sandy corner as well as runway stripes to make my guess. It looks like the photo was taken approx due south. From the shadow position it appears to be mid afternoon. From the shape of the "grassy island" under the right wing, my guess is that the photo was taken from the area just to the NW of that patch of grass where the "big pond" is. Tony P. |

You might well be right as it's been nearly fifteen years since my last contract out there. I'm on dialup and Google map stuff is much too painstaking for me. I might try at a friend's house on Monday though. JT |
