If you are too impatient to build your own - at Oshkosh I saw a
Cessna 195 with an M-14 engine and a 3-blade MT prop. They called
it the Bolshevik Gorilla. IIRC it was for sale.

G'day From Australia

Well it's nice to meet up with someone the same size as me!

I went through the same process trying to decide what plane would suit me
and after trying all those that were available at the time I settled for the
Murphy Rebel and I could not be happier!

This plane will take two blokes built like us, together with all the camping
gear (and beer) that you can fit in it, with ease and it has such a spacious
rear cabin you can even sleep in it!

I have a Rotax 912s powering it and it cruises at 85 knots and uses 18
litres an hour. It is a superb handling aircraft and just loves the outback.
Where I fly from there are no paved runways for hundreds of kilometres and
it handles these conditions with ease.

The Rebel has good factory backup and with a very helpful internet group
that will steer you through any difficulties that you might encounter. The
factory has introduced a quick build kit, but I don't know about the quality
or the value for money that this option offers.

The Zodiac did not suit me as it does not fit into the category that we can
use here under "ultralight" categories.

I also liked the Rans S7 as it will accommodate big blokes, but I chose the
Rebel because it is all aluminium, side by side and unlike the S7 it is not
fabric covered. The Rebel also offers a much larger luggage area.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Ian Donaldson

Hello. I'm interested in constructing a homebuilt kit plane, and have
looked at several of the available options. But I'm also 6 foot 5
inches tall, and weigh about 300 lbs. Big guy. Are there are particual
models to focus on, or conversely exclude? The Zenith Zodiac looks
pretty roomy, but looks can be deceiving. I fit fine in a 152 by
myself, but I would like to be able to take a person with me. Build
time, cost, cruise speed, and useful load are considerations, but the
biggest one is cabin size and comfort. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Cap

Bob Barrows Bearhawk! its a 4 place, but a terrific plane. You can
scratch build it or buy a quick build kit.

www.bearhawkaircraft.com

Also do a google on bearhawk, you'll get a bunch of individual websites
on this plane.
