Default GPS question

I received a handheld Magellan Meridian Color GPS for Christmas. How
good a GPS is this for aviation purposes? Are there any accessories or
software/database packages that are aviation related and suitable for
use with this GPS unit?

Thanks.

Magellan (motto: "Where you go, we go") apparently does not think we go into
the air.

If it has a patch cord for use with a PC, you can probably adapt it. I
use a Garmin III Plus this way. See my page at

You can use it to drive another system such as a PDA using
ControlVision software. May not be your preferred answer but it is
worth looking into.

CJ – I was afraid of that, but thanks for the answer.

Dan – It has a patch cord, but I think the problem is going to be
getting a worthwhile database into the unit. I'll take a closer look
at your web page. Thanks for the help.

Ron – This sounds like the best option – and my wife just got a color
Palm. Are there aviation systems for the Palm?

You can try this,

it is designed for Magellan 315s but it might work with the meridian
