'Exploring the Monser' by Bob Whelan discusses this
accident...IMHO a must for the glider pilot library.

Hi;

I believe Bob lost his life in a glider accident while on tow in a new
experimental BG-12 at Inokern, CA which lost a wing allegedly due to
exces towing speed. I'm not positive about the details other than he
was being towed by a new Piper Tripacer (PA-28). the source of my
information was in a book I recently read "Taming the Monster" Could be
I'm mistaken.
