Default UNISON Question

Hello all…

I'm using a mac with a newsreader call UNISON. I'm trying to upload
images without the program converting it to a yEnc file..

can't figure it out.. any ideas?

Thanks

First, there are no yEnc files. it is still a binary, be it jpeg, tiff,
mp3, or whatever, yEnc is just an encoding method which is actually
more efficient and uses less overhead than US-ASCII based encoding and
includes a checksum to ensure correct transmission.

Unison will allow you to transmit both ways.

With Unison if you just drag the image file into a message post it will
be shared with the group as a non-yEnc coded jpeg.

This is what I do for binary groups which are yEnc averse.

If you use the upload function it will encode using yEnc. However not
using this function I see as a courtesy to those not using usenet
clients able to decode yEnc. As has been stated in another thread in
this group those who are not using a contemporary dedicated usenet
client have a responsibility to modernize their viewing rather than
have the the poster jump through hoops for their convenience. yEnc is
not the evil it was once made out to be.

So with Unison, here is a jpeg attached. Then I will upload another
image using yEnc.

BTW using Unison's upload feature with yEnc, actually makes uploading a
batch of images much simpler for the poster.

Default UNISON Question

Thanks for all the replies. It's been a while since i've posted
anything to this group and the first time since changing to a MAC. It
took some time to find a software program I was happy with.
In the past I had witnessed a lot of hostility towards yEnc posters and
was simply trying to avoid that.

Now that I have this "UNISON" for mac program figured out I see that I
can post either way.

thanks again to those of you that took the time to answer my questions…

Unison has a great Mac friendly interface, My preference lies with the
earlier version of Unison v1.8.1 as opposed to the 2.1.5 you are using.
However, if you are looking for another client which will also do it
all, but is a bit more arcane try MTNW. It is free, very solid and
reliable.
