Default Intro to Soaring - Powerpoint Presentation

Hi all,

I'm planning to show my glider at a local high school and also have
the opportunity to give a 30 minute talk on "What is Soaring".

Does anyone have access to a PowerPoint presentation/file that could
be emailed to me? I'll have access to their audio/visual system and
it would be a great addition to the day. Thanks in advance.

I don't have what you're asking for, but, if you're planning to allow
students to sit in the cockpit or get close to the assembled glider, please
give them a good briefing about handling such a delicate and expensive piece
of equipment.

I once let a neighborhood kid sit im my glider while I was working on it in
the street in front of my house. He must have seen a video of Patty
Wagstaff throwing her Extra around the sky, because he immediately began
slamming the stick back and forth from one stop to the other.

I do that while thermaling. Are you not suppose to slam the stick
back and forth from stop to stop?

You could roll your own using the above as a start.

Be sure to mention the Cadet (print some applications) Youth Flight
Scholarship and the Kolstad College Scholarship.
BTW, Rachel Conklin (2011 Kolstad) received a standing ovation at the
SSA Awards Banquet in Reno. First time long time SSA members could
recall that happening. All Ralph Kolstad did was emotionally read her
application letter.

I just found it. Its only 14 slides but that should be enough for a
thirty minute presentation, especially if you throw some videos in. It
looks like Eric Greenwell is the original author.

A friend took his DG300 to the local mall for display. An 8 year old
went over to the down wingtip and walked the wing up to the fuselage.

There's a message there - don't put a wingtip down, use two wing
stands to keep the wings level if you're going to show a glider in
public crowds. It looks better that way anyway. Take along someone
for crowd control if you can.

Plus, put tail boom on a stand to keep the horizontal well out of
reach and to pose the glider. One wing high, the other low strikes a
nice pose. I drilled a one inch hole in several round paving slabs,
then cut some pvc lengths and glued t-joints on top. These make good
stanchions. A bright yellow poly rope runs from stanchion to
stanchion to rope off the area and allow one point of entry/exit to
the glider area. Bring extra help.
