Default DRE-6000enr headset

Just received these today and loaded two 9v batteries into the enr unit.
Not having an intercom handy, I tried pushing the ON button and get a green
battery indication while the button is depressed, but the unit turns off
when the button is released. There is no aural indication of enr
activating. Does an active headset like this need to be plugged into an
intercom before the enr kicks in?

Never had a DRE... My LightSPeed's ANR works whether the unit is plugged or
unplugged... Kinda eery to use it standing aroound in the hangar... It gets
spooky quiet... Even what sounds like quiet to us normally is surprisingly
immersed in a background level of noise that you just don't notice... Some
guys take their ANR headset on an airline trip because it makes the cabin so
much quieter... Best you call DRE...

Ditto Also have a DRE-6k and this is the same for me -You can hear a click
when you hit the on button and it all goes quiet.

Very pleased with mine, would be interested in why your not pleased with
yours

I've got a DRE-6k (not really happy with it, but that's another
issue). The ON button works immediately (and holding it is a battery

check,
IIRC). The OFF button requires you hold it down for 5 sec or so. If it
turns off immediately when you let go of the ON button, sounds rather
broken.

The lights are only indicators of the battery level and activate anytime you
depress the "on" button. They do not stay on during normal operation. The
only way you can tell the unit is turned on and working properly is
reduction in background sound level. I understand that some ANR headsets
produce white noise that is audible in a quiet setting, but the DRE 6000s
that I have don't.

Try the headset in an airplane and you'll quickly discover whether or not
they are working. Put them on in the passive mode and then activate the ANR.
If they are working properly, much of the engine noise will disappear when
you turn them on.

I added an Oregon Aero soft top and some gel ear seals to my 6000's, and
like them very much.

Thanks very much for the feedback. The environment I was in was not noisy
enough in low frequency sounds for me to notice the difference. Just turned
up the volume on the classical station I was listening too and, waalaa, the
violas dropped out but the violins were still there!
Aren't News Groups great. I sent an email to DRE yesterday and they have
yet to answer, but you guys came back in spades. Thanks again.
