There's actually a larger requirement than just a flying
gin palace for the boy Blair. The RAF's VC-10's are now
seriously long in the tooth as are the Tristar tankers and both
got a lot of flying hours lately supporting ops in Afghanistan and
Iraq.

There's a real need to replace both in the refuelling and
transport role. Its my understanding that 2 bids have been
made

The first from EADS, RR, Cobham and Thales involves
the use of Airbus 330-200 airframes while the other
from BAE Sysytems,Boeing and Serco involves the
use of Boeing 767-300ER airframes.

Buying a one off is a bad idea as it raises the cost of ownership
since you have to hold a separate spares inventory , train
personnel to fly and operate it etc etc.

Using standard RAF transport with reconfigurable seating
would seem a better option.

It is actually s/n 15001 that was fitted out as a limited VIP aircraft.
I've been on it and there's nothing spectacular about it even though the
current Prime Minister Jean Chretien described it before he was elected
as a Flying Taj Mahal.

Gold faucets would never do. Blair's "supposed" to be a socialist for god's
sake. He should be made to sit on a spike and eat an inflight meal of raw
turnip. (And be thankful.)

Our current Prime Minister (Jean Chretien) thought this a/c was excessive,
so he flies short hauls in a CC-144 Challenger (Canadair CL-601/04) or one
of the other 4 CC-150 Polaris's that aren't refitted as a flying Taj
Mahal. Our Gov't has been trying to sell #05, but it looks like Air Canada
will refit it back to a combi configuration

Hi

Why do some people keep on saying that it was 05. It was 01 (s/n
15001). As I mentioned in a previous post, I was on this aircraft. The
first time I climbed aboard it I said, "holy **** what hell is Chretien
talking about". What a real disappointment. The aircraft had a rather
spartan VIP suite compared to some rock stars aircraft. CC-150 Polaris
s/n 15001 was once describe as no more luxurious than a good motor home.
When compared to the ass end of a C-119G in frosty February at 13,000
feet, yeah it was a Flying Taj Mahal.

I saw two Ju52s flying at Duxford!
