Default Bob Carlton gets Art Scholl Award

Each year, the International Council of Air Shows presents the Art Scholl Showmanship Award to the air show act or performer which best exemplifies the qualities of showmanship demonstrated by Art Scholl. This award is the Airshow Industry's equivalent of the Oscar for Best Actor, Best Picture and Lifetime Achievement all rolled into one. Last night at the ICAS Banquet, the award went to glider pilot Bob Carlton. Bob and his wife Laurie accepted the award from host Rob Reider for their 22 years as professional airshow performers, first with an unpowered Salto sailplane, then the Salto and a Skybolt Biplane, then an Alisport Silent with retractable jet engines and now the Salto fitted with a PBS TJ-100 turbojet. Bob also did the test flying on the SubSonex single-place jet aircraft, which he also flies in airshows. Both the jet Salto and SubSonex perform full aerobatic routines down to runway level, and can also be equipped with pyrotechnics for night performances. As head of Desert Aerospace, Bob also develops jet power packages for gliders like the Schempp-Hirth Arcus and others. Congratulations!

Outstanding! CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Bob, Laurie and Mark Mocho, for their tremendous efforts over many years. It is definitely a TEAM effort! Thanks for the past 22 years. Now, keep it going! Renny

I'll take this opportunity to congratulate Bob and thank him for all his work on the Pegasus AD issue. As a consequence of his efforts, I now own a Peg and am thoroughly enjoying it.
