Default Oudie 2 Lite - how to Autorun XCSoar (or something other than SeeYou Mobile)

To run XC Soar or your other favourite software on the Oudie

Naviter has just made the process a lot easier:

1. Install the latest Oudie firmware from
http://www.naviter.com/install-the-l...are-for-oudie/

2. On the Oudie main Menu page (with SeeYou Mobile and ConnectMe icons) press the "" button in the upper right corner. Then choose "Autorun". Press "..." to choose the executable that you would like to run after reboot.

Thanks,

I have the Oudie 2 Lite I got for Christmas waiting for me at home. I can't wait to try it out with XC-Soar.

I am interested is doing this but my Autorun page only have one
choice; "Automatically run SeeYou Mobile". There is no "...". I am
running the latest firmware, 4.34.002. Any ideas? Does the micro-SD
card need to be formatted differently?

I had to update to 4.34.003. Now I have the "..." feature in
Autorun. Unfortunately, the Naviter change log for 4.34.xxx is
EMPTY! http://www.naviter.com/products/seey...ile-change-log

Also, an interesting thread in the XCSoar forum points to what seems
to be an easier way to change back and forth from SYM to XCSoar rather
than going through the Autorun menu. I assume this would work with
any Windows Mobile executable. http://forum.xcsoar.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=343

I wrote one of the recent entries on that forum. I find the new
3.34.003 the easiest way to switch. I wrote my append based on 4.34.002
and that required connecting to another PC to rename program files to
switch back and forth. It's much easier now to go to the autorun
setting and selecting the program to run.

I tried both ways and I think that the way shown at
http://forum.xcsoar.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=343 is easier/simpler/
faster. However, it may only work with an Oudie 1.

In the Oudie 1 there are three program icons on the home screen,
SeeYou Mobile, ConnectMe and PocketFMS. PocketFMS is not loaded on
the Oudie 1 so it is basically a useless icon. In the easier scheme I
linked above, this icon is re-used to run XCSoar. Thus you can run
either SYM or XCSoar from the same screen with just a single tap. This
will be useful when changing software in mid-flight.

Unfortunately, the Oudie 2 that I tested only had SeeYou Mobile and
ConnectMe icons on the home screen. If true with all Oudie 2's you
will need to use the AutoRun method to switch between programs.

I just got my Oudie2 running SYM. All works well except I too discovered that if trying to install XCSoar, one has to remove components of SYM and than it will run "I think" ok with XCSoar. There got to be an easyer way and be able to use both independently.
Here is the copy of the thread I found on the XCSoar forum that I followed:

"Here is what I just did with the Oudie 2 Lite that I just received.

I was going to follow the previous instructions but it appears that "PocketFMS" is not on the unit I received, so I decided to replace the SeeYou executable with XCSoar. Instead of using the root of the TFAT drive I went to the 2577 folder which contains the SeeYou Mobile executable. I first renamed mSeeYou.exe to mSeeYouSave.exe. I then copied the XCSoar.exe to this folder and then renamed it to mSeeYou.exe. I then created the XCSoarData folder inside the 2577 folder and placed my map and waypoint files there.

By doing it this way, XCSoar will autostart instead of SeeYou.

Extra info, just to confuse things:
I found no way to access the Windows Mobile start or anything other than what Naviter has provided in the way of modifying device settings. In order to change the device orientation from portrait to landscape I had to use the setup function provided in the SeeYou program. To do this I had to rename the files back to their original names, restart SeeYou and use the the settings menu to alter the orientation (under User Interface, I think). Once it was the way I wanted I then renamed files back so that XCSoar would run."

Default Oudie 2 Lite - how to Autorun XCSoar (or something other thanSeeYou Mobile)

OK, this is an old thread. Posting today, October 22, 2018.
On the XCsoar website it says this about the Oudie 2 Lite.

"The Naviter Oudie is a PNA running Windows CE. Unfortunately, its graphics driver has an annoying bug that garbles the screen and obscures the InfoBoxes. Until Naviter provides an updated graphics driver, running XCSoar on the Oudie is not recommended."
My question is: Is this an old statement that is no longer true?
Can you now run XCsoar and/or TopHat on the Oudie 2 lite?
Thanks for any observations on this subject.

I don't think there have been any updates to either XCSoar or TopHat that allow operation on the Oudie. Both projects have stopped development for the Windows Mobile/CE systems. While Microsoft still sells the OS, there are very few new devices that are being sold. As a result, the interest and development effort for the platform does not exist in either project.

On the other hand LK8000 seems to still have a few interested developers for the platform, but I've not heard anything about using it on an Oudie.

Hi,

I have been using LK8000 on an Oudie Lite for several years and all LK8000 releases are still available for WinCE. I can honestly recommend it.

FYI, LK8000 has its' origins in the same code as XCSoar, the two were forked on their own paths some years ago.

I chose LK8000 just because I happened to slightly prefer its' UI over XCSoar, but this is a very subjective decision.
