Not to bitch about the paintings. (there's been nuff of that) but....
Isn't Alicante in Spain??
What does a Jap plane doing in the skies above Spain?
(maybe I don't know my history well enough, though)

Alicante is also a town on Negros, in the Phillipines.

Right!

I stand corrected.
Never too late to learn a thing or two.

In Texas alone we have a Paris, an Athens, a Rome,
an Edinburgh, an Italy, a London, a Liverpool, a Moscow,
a Naples, a China, a Dublin, an Egypt, a Troy, a Turkey,
and an Odessa.

Old World names are all over the New World.

PS: For what it is worth we also have towns with
names like Dell Computer, Gun Barrel City, Neiman Marcus,
Boy's Ranch, No Trees, Cut And Shoot, Recycle, Escapees
RV Club, Telephone, Telegraph, White Settlement, and
my favorite - Climax.

I think the only place in the state of Oregon that ~didn't~ copy its name
from elsewhere is 'Boring'...

Washington has scads of Northwest native names including Seattle and my
favorite, Humptulips.

If it weren't this funny i'd 've thought you 'd be pulling my leg.

Well, not far from me (compared to the distances in the US, everything is
"not far from me") we have a little town called America.
I'd have to look up funnier names.

Cheers,

Dennis

I was bemused to notice when I lived in Washington
State that they have towns named George and Martha.
Should have expected it but there you go......
