I was cleaning out my emails and came across this little beauty from
BWB. Thought I'd share.

I took my brother’s small boy Christopher with me to a shopping
mall the other day and I lost him for awhile.

He approached a uniformed policeman and said, "I've lost my uncle
Billy."

The cop asked, "What's he like?"

Christopher replied, "Jack Daniels and women with big tits".

I must have missed something, who is BWB and what happened?- Hide quoted

BWB aka. Badwater Bill Phillips was a long term participant in the
rec.aviation.homebuilt newsgroup and was either loved, hated with a
passion, or some combination of both at the same time. He was a
builder, a flyer, a boastful and arrogant sob, a great friend, and
generally a real character. His greatest claim to fame would be
considered by some as his unique ability to stir up controversy and he
did a lot of that. While others would call him the friend you would
always want to have if you needed one.

Bill and his wife were involved in a crash of his Lancair last year.
Bill was killed and his wife seriously injured. Many of us have some
fond memories of Bill while others not so fond. Each will carry our
own opinions while at the same time regretting his passing. He will
be missed.

Thanks for the info, sorry to hear about his passing. Sounds like he was a
perfect fit for Usenet.

Well, some might argue that but I think it's a good bet that no one who was
round when BWB was here would ever consider this place boring! :-)

Yep, he was.

Nearly a decade ago, in the pre-troll days when rec.aviation.piloting was
still vibrant, I hosted a photo page for each rec.aviation poster to use.
Participants could send me pix of their aircraft, along with a short
biography, and I would post it on my website. In this way, we could all see
what each other was flying.

Hundreds of participants sent in pix of their plane, or maybe of themselves
with their first plane and their current plane, along with a paragraph or
two of background.

Badwater Bill sent me something like THIRTY photos, pictures of all the
planes he had ever owned or flown, and a mini-novel biography. His listing
was easily ten times the size of everyone else's -- but it was fascinating
stuff.

To say he was a character is an understatement. But what a character!

These are not Jay's webpages, but if you are not aware of these pages
of Bill's planes, they might give you some insight.
BWB's old personal pages at Angelfire and Yahoo/geocities which were
still active as of a few minutes ago.

Hi Paul,

Nah, I took the site down last year, after many months of inactivity.
There was simply no longer any point to it, since most of the people
pictured there had long since left rec.aviation for the greener pastures of
moderated chat rooms, where cretins like the trolls that have decimated
these groups are quickly and efficiently eliminated.

T-minus 36 hours for OSH departure. Hope to see some of you there!

Well, I won't be there again this year but I will be taking off
several days to work on my plane so I will be thinking about it quite
a lot. I hope the time will be better spent working on my project
than looking at everyone else's.

Have a cold beer and enjoy.

That's really a sad commentary, because it really shows that people who
should know better are much to easily trolled.

I really wish that problem was confined to usenet, in which case it would
only be either interesting or annoying--depending upon one's viewpoint on a
given subject at any given time. Unfortunately, it appears to be a small
part of a much larger problem. ):-(

I'll have to miss it, yet again, this year; so have a great time, look at a
few extra airplanes and talk to a few extra people!

ISTM we are experiencing a decline in respect for others that is
accompanying the 'dumbing down' and 'meaning' of society, which when
combined with intolerance and ignorance is making us all poorer in life and
spirit.

Happy landings,

You are certainly correct about that.

I like that too, I just wish you (or me) could think of a single word to
replace "meaning" without the 2nd connotation of
"understanding/definition of".
