Default EC-121M paint scheme in 1969?

I'm writing an article about the North Korean shoot down of a Navy EC-121M
surveillance aircraft in 1969. The plane was from VQ-1. Thirty men died.

I have several pictures of Navy EC-121Ms, but not the actual aircraft and
not from 1969. In the mid-sixties they had a much darker paint scheme,
mostly dark blue. By the early 1970s they had a gull grey scheme.

Does anybody know when they switched? I want to illustrate the article, but
I want a plane that looks like the one that was shot down in 1969.

You might take a look at this site

http://www.vpnavy.com/vq1_aircraft.html

as there's a wealth of information about VQ and I'm sure a posting on
their bulletion board would yield results.

Check out:

It looks like you could go either way. Apparently (according to the
photo captions), VQ-1 aircraft were in a transition stage as far as
markings go.
