Default Discovery Wings AV 2003 vs. 2004

Any thoughts on Discovery Wings Channel report on E.A.A. Oshkosh Airventure
Programs that aired Thursday evening?

I thought the 2003 report was GREAT!!!...actually focusing on HOMEBUILDING
and recreational aviation. The very foundation of what made...er makes EAA
great (OK...MADE)!!! I thought it was well written scripted and produced and
stayed on the subject line very well. All in all...it didnot portray an
average EAA member as a "Deep Pocket" eccentric with more money than sense,
that likes to spend it on frivolous flying toys...and I for one, appreciate
that.

But...ohhhh what a difference a year can make.

The report on AV 2004, on the underhand...er excuse me...OTHERhand was a
misreable disappointment. In the course of one short year, and a short 60
minutes as well, the "Grassroots EAA member has "grad-geeated" out of
Pietenpols into 2.5 MILLION dollar homebuilt jets! After all...this IS Sport
aviation in the "Next Century" !!! ...as portrayed by this lame production.
This is the "message" we do NOT want to send to the average "Joe and Jill
Blow" that thinks it will take big bucks to participate in even "grassroots"
aviation from here on out. Darts to Tom P. for putting his approval for
broadcast on this production.

This is NOT the image we want for EAA! Sport aviation CANNOT be touted as a
"Spectator Sport"!...

I know...you guys are out there pumping up pressure on your flame
throwers...so, toast me if you must...but you gotta' admit...Im RIGHT!!

I guess the "marketers" of the million (plus) dollar "Homebuilt" jets are
entitled to equal billing...but gee whizz...are they in the right
place?...at the right show? I sez not!...whut sez ya'll ?

Just a feable attempt to "stir the pot" and insite...sight...excite....START
a riot...OK...just blow off sum steam.

Ok...pumpem' up...and light

My personal opinion is that very very few people will be able to
afford the new superlight bus jets. Perhaps enough to keep the
companys afloat for a while but they are definately not what
homebuilding is about.

That doesn't matter to Air Venture though, they're a big time business
now, with many interests. Homebuilding will always be a part of what
they do, but their increasing diversification means that it will play
a lesser and lesser role.

I can't even afford a certified aircraft engine, let alone a light
jet. I suspect a lot of homebuilders are in the same financial
situation.

Heh, I'm just waiting on the sideline till all those cheap jet engines
start rolling out. The guy said that technology is going to drive the
cost so low that everyone can have a couple. I'm a believer, yes I am.
