McDonnell Douglas DC-8
DC-8 Airborne Laboratory
NASA operated a converted McDonnell Douglas DC-8 jetliner as a flying science laboratory. The highly-modified aircraft, was based at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, Calif., and served as a platform for data collection on a wide variety of experiments in support of scientific projects serving the world scientific community. Included in this community were NASA, federal, state, academic and foreign investigators. |
