There seems to have been a major step backwards in technology for this comp.
No info about time on task, speeds etc and not at all interesting to watch as the coverage is poor.
Was looking forward to this one, but maybe the Czech guys have it sorted better

Organisers are currently learning how to make proper use of live tracking. It requires significant lead time to set this up properly for an event like WGC.

Technologywise, the folks in Poland are using a similar OGN-based approach like at the SGP in Chile last winter (the best way to got in my opinion). But live scoring is different at an WGC compared to a Grand-Prix competition.. Some implementations of this have been done in the past, but as an organizer you need to have the necessary IT knowledge in your team to make use of it. This has not been the case with previous competitions.

For the WGC in Germany in 2020, we are currently running some tests already this year to make sure everything works at the worlds (e.g. at current Lüsse competition: http://lilienthalglide.de/wp-content...vescore_1.png).

There is not enough good OGN receivers in competition area, that is clear. That's why tracking does not work. Even one good receiver in Ostrow would make a huge difference.

It should be noted that some pilots choose to turn their flarm off while flying.

Ensuring a good receiver coverage is one of the items that require significant lead times. OGN experts developed a long range receiver setup which is available at less than 200€ (e.g. he http://ognrange.onglide.com/#EDOV,ma...f f,circles;), but it takes some efforts and collaboration from other clubs to distribute these throughout the countryside.

During the last IGC meeting, a year 1 proposal was adopted to separate collision avoidance like FLARM from tracking hardware. This is aimed towards preventing pilots from switching off their FLARM units in order to hide themselves in tracking. Separate OGN trackers will have to be used. They are in the works and start to be available at reasonable costs (some were built in Poland already).

The trackers that were used at Benalla WGC unfortunately proved to be completely unreliable in European networks.

We have built OGN stations that get reliable 80-100km range, current Ostrow station range is 30 km. Hardware matters.

Standard - no.
Club - yes, in accordance with https://www.fai.org/sites/default/files/sc3ah_2018a.pdf "IGC PROCEDURES FOR HANDICAPPED CLASSES" - handicaps in Appendix 1.
