Default Electronic gadgets and GA power outlets

I've been renting Cessnas for ages but always avoided using the "cigarette
lighter" power outlets, especially on planes with 24-volt electrical systems.
This is getting to be a bigger and bigger problem as I accumulate more toys, so
my specific question.. (Sorry if it seems hopelessly naive)

Is it safe to charge my IPad in a 24-volt 172?

I assume you mean directly with a cigarette lighter power outlet.

The answer is, it depends.

There are some chargers that are 12-24V and some that are 12V only.

You need to look at the specs for your charger.

Or get one of these:

Nice spotting Jim, but at the bottom of that page, I found this, maybe
even better? - certainly tidier...

Bingo! A bit spendy, but that's it! I spent two hours last night shopping USB
chargers, and none seem to bother listing input voltage specifications. I
should have thought of Sportys. Thanks!

Vaughn
