Ah, innocent that I am (and VERY infrequent poster), I was unware that
the pointless discussion du jour (or du wahetever) was yEnc. First, I
never even open anything in this group that seems too small to be a
pic, so I was unaware of the discussion in the first place--that's why
Maple 1's comment seemed indecipherable to me (although I understand
it now--Giganews gave me the last few months of this group, and I can
see that he is in the anti-yEnc faction). Second, although I'd like
to claim that I used yEnc because of its superiority, in truth I
wasn't even aware that I was using it. How can that be? Simple. I
use PowerPost for large groups of images. I used PowerPost for that
purpose in its earlier non-yEnc versions, and I paid little attention
when it became yEnc only since it required no effort or learning on my
part. All I knew is that I could post better images without people
getting their panties in a bunch about size. And I've used Agent
since forever (I tried Outlook for 1 day, which was one day too long),
and yEnc is transparent in Agent--you don't need to do anything or
know anything enjoy yEnc files. I'm not pushing Agent--I'm just
saying I have a darn good excuse for being mostly unaware of
yEnc--like most stuff on my computer, I'm just happy if it works, and
I have no desire to peek under any hoods.

I'm going to continue to post large groups of files with yEnc
PowerPost. I may post one or two non-yEnc upon request. When I'm
posting just a file or two, I'll do it through Agent minus yEnc.
Frankly, I'm going to do it the way it is easier for me. If other
folks can't be bothered to do what little it takes to receive yEnc
posts properly, I sure can't be bothered to do anything extra either.

I was amazed to read someone's comment that they would have to become
a computer freak to deal with this and learn new stuff. Ain't that a
bitch? Reminds me of a person in my department who just wouldn't
learn e-mail (or anything at all beyond solitaire). I told him that
it was the organization's policy that all official communication would
be via -e-mail, that I would cease making paper copies just for him,
and that if he chose not to learn e-mail, he could deal with the
consequences. After missing a few department meetings and finding
that his pet projects got no funding since he was unaware of the
meetings at which he'd have to defend them, he learned e-mail
(although at first he learned to read messages, and stubbornly refused
to learn how to reply!). Same story with Acrobat. I started sending
everything around as pdf files, and while there was the usual whining
about "another piece of software", even an infant in the womb can use
Acrobat Reader.

True enough, if you don't want to learn e-mail, you can try to get by
with snailmail. And if you don't even want to learn how to write, you
can just try yelling really really loud. It's your choice. I don't
expect any favors from anybody. If you post something in a way that
I'll have to learn or do something new to see it, it is MY choice, not
YOUR problem.

A few have commented that my pictures posted yesterday were worth
seeing (thanks for that!). But they're (sorry!) just a bunch or
airplane pictures. Your life won't change one bit if you don't look
at 'em, and mine won't change one bit if you don't look at 'em.
Again......your choice.

Now, can anybody answer the question I posed in a cutesy way through
the titles of the last 5 files I posted? Was that Eagle jockey just
showing off in keeping the nose in the air for about 2000 feet of his
rollout, or was that somehow necessary? Sure looked cool!

I believe Eagle drivers routinely use aerobraking but they also have been
doing it for years as part of the demonstrations.

It is indeed routine as far as I've seen, but usually the brake is
down fairly quickly. That sure wasn't the case yesterday. I
wondered if he landed a little hot, but it didn't seem that way. So
all I could think was that it was something in the "stupid Eagle
trick" category. But it seems like a long time to give up forward
visibility!

Raptors tomorrow--if you're anywhere near Oshkosh Thursday-Sunday, you
do not want to miss that show.

Missed the original "cutesy" question but . . . probably taking advantage of
'aerodynamic' braking. That was a favorite of mine in the Deuce. That big
wing up in the air like that creates a LOT of drag and slows you fairly
quickly. Often negated the requirement to use the drag-chute.

So I decided I would like to see your Oshkosh pictures and I went to the
News agent site and found out that Free Agent is no longer available. What
is the best FREE news reader that will allow me to view yEnc files?

I've had Agent so long that I just don't know, but I hope somebody
else here might.

You can still get a free version of Agent. It's just V4.x which is
no longer free. Go to:

http://www.forteinc.com/agent/download-all.php

Scroll down the page until you find v3.3 and download it plus whatever
dictionary you need.

Take a look at 'Xnews'. This is another completely free newsreader that does
just about everything that you will need. The authors home page is here....

http://xnews.newsguy.com/

The download button is on the left. Don't forget that you can run this
alongside Outlook Express so you don't loose anything and it's got to be
worth a try for free. If you do appreciate it you can give him a donation
via paypal.

I'm partial to the Gravity newsreader. It used to be a commercial
product, now freeware at
http://cws.internet.com/file/11436.htm , and at
other sites. (Google "gravity newsreader" for more.

One feature I especially like is the powerful filtering. You can make
the most obnoxious Usenet people disappear.
