Default Soaring Sept 06 Cover Question

On the cover of the September 2006 issue of Soaring is pictured Eric
Mozer's Discus. Cool shot.

The question I have is what is the long thin white "things" which
appear to be coming from the nose and the right wing of the glider?

Thanks, John

Not if he's seeing what I'm seeing; reflections on a wing don't extend
beyond the wing (between the fueslage and the "em" letters).
The line on the nose could be a reflection, though.

Default Soaring Sept 06 Cover Question

Looks like a long piece of wing tape or mylar, stuck to the nose.

Maybe the result of some close quarter thermalling?

Default Soaring Sept 06 Cover Question

Could it be static lines picked up off a passing Hawker Jet?

Kirk, don't you recognize the botched attempt at AOA
indicators

this thread; wouldn't the sensible thing be to
ask Eric Moser?

C'mon Nyal, this is Usenet. Sensibility has nothing to do with it. ;-)

I surmise it may have been a blue, rather so-so soaring day and Eric
and others were dropping ribbons or paper tapes as thermal markers or
targets and the cover image shows that Eric's intercepted one. Under
some magnification, it's clearly streaming on both sides of the nose
and under the right wing.
