Pass the word around, maybe Ray Gimmey and some of the others you know. I think having it at the end of the soaring season will be good as everyone can reflect back on their adventures of the past season. Also, we have one evening which we plan on taking limo's down to a sport coat event and dinner party at a winery. Now, that could be a good bang for your buck. Spread the word as we are thinking around 25 max or so. Best regards, # 711. |

Just thinking out loud, but what does making it "senior" get you other
than excluding the interesting new guys in this contest? I don't know of many hot west coast under 55 pilots who are going to burn up the skies on long tiring 6 hour flights and leave you old guys in the dust. Well, I gues P7 isn't 55 yet; just give him a personal handicap! Why not run a super-regional instead? Same concept, more gliders, more pilots, encourage young new people. John Cochrane BB |

John Cochrane BB The Region 12 was held at Warner Springs this year. Have you looked at the SSA website at the turnout? I believe they plan on hosting another Region 12 at Warners during the Spring of 2009. Maybe, BB, you should host a Super Regionals anytime, anywhere, anyplace you want this next year or any year. John, why don't you host a Super Regionals in Parowan during Sept. of 2009? I will come and I am sure, many others will. Parowan, in early Sept. can be really great with long cloud streets, high bases,10 plus kt. lift. Great idea and I am thankful your coming forward to do it. BB, you aren't suggesting that "The Seniors" event in Florida be ended in favor of your super regional idea? Naw, your not suggesting that....my bad...sorry. We had a Western Seniors before and we are just trying to see if theirs interest to bring it back. That's all. A fun, end of season contest, which will have guest's included. BUT we can work around your contest dates for your super regionals in Parowan during Sept. 2009. Just let us know the dates. Thanks, John, and yes, we old guys, never in fear, still enjoy kicking butts on younger, hot shots. Errrr...how did that last day in Uvalde go, BB, anyway, I forget???? All in fun, love ya BB, ka smooch....... # 711. |

We thought about a super regional.....but our own Region 12 does not
fill up, so there is no reason to do that. Warner Springs is a GREAT site for beginning XC and racing, so I do not need to make preference to higher ranked pilots. To my understanding a Regional is designed to prepare pilots for nationals, maybe even that year so pilots can adjust to new rules changes. 1.0 ‡ † PURPOSE The purpose of a Regional Soaring Championships is to determine a Regional Champion and to measure the performance of all entrants within each class. Performance in Regionals will be used to provide a basis for pilots to qualify for entry into future soaring Championships. So that is the reason for our madness of having an early spring contest (Region 12)...oh yea and the weather is decent. I could have our Region 12 contest in September instead, when the thermals are better and it is hot outside (but no chance of wave as in April..)...but that would not in my mind fit into item 1.0 above. So the regional stays...it is wayyyyy under subscribed so you can come from out of region with NO fear of being placed on a waiting list. Even with custom hand crafted beer. September.... Western Seniors...The seniors in FL are early in the season...like the first kick-off of the soaring season....for those that have a 6month season and cannot fly year round...for those that think the soaring season ends after August...well then we have have an end of the soaring season Senior contest. I am not trying to fill up with 65pilot (then I would think of a super-regional or National)....I do not want that many ego's running around the airport. I like the idea of limiting to 35....but hope for 15, the airport gets very busy when too many pilots want to take off in a short time, we have the room, but we like the operation small and not too hindering on Sky Sailing (I still have to flight instruct after the launch while everyone goes on task, then be ready when everyone lands...more gliders makes that harder), we like the small BBQ's, the relaxed shade trees, and not more than 30gallons of beer (it gets hard to keep that much beer cold)...So if you are not over 55 then you can come and fly as a guest...we would love to have you here....just like in FL. We like the idea of having a crew rest day (not decided if we will have one yet..)....but they are not thought of as highly at a super- regional.... but it would be a fun time going wine tasting with your friends... This was semi-thought out...now will anyone come?....if you organize it they will come...We figured we would ask and see if anyone would. As far as encouraging newbies..I flight instruct 7 days a week...they can still fly our Region 12 contest, or come to the western seniors and fly as a guest...even better come out next month, I don't even have min experience requirements...THAT is the way to get your badges...see the rules......fly to the rules...have lectures...I posted something on that...October 10, 11, 12..http:// fallclassic.deltavictor8.com/...you should see my inbox with the flood of emails. I am still working on sanctioning forms, not even sure if it will get through...but we want to see if there is even any interest. |
