Default Radio/Transponder cost

I have been wondering if anyone can explain a bit how the cost of a
radio or transponder is roughly obtained.
I'm especially interested if anyone has numbers on what certification
(both software and hardware) costs, and what kind of tests have to be
performed on general aviation hardware.
