Ping: Mike Granby 396/KLN94
Mike, since the Garmin firmware update 3.0 has been released allowing the
KLN94 serial input, have you removed your adapter or are you still using it? Is anybody else inputting King serial data to their 396? What about field approvals/337's for the Airgizmos panel mount? I'm not arguing if you need one or not, I'm just curious who has gone the field approval route and what the FSDO's reception was. Thanks. Jim |

I'm still using it, as I have a 196 on the co-pilot's yoke that doesn't (yet) accept King data and I want both yoke-mounted GPSs to get the route. Also, having the switch in there is useful for when you don't want the data transferred. If and when the 196 firmware is updated, I'll pull the unit and install a switch to isolate the serial data. I saw your question elsewhere about Oshkosh -- yep, getting there Thu and coming back Sun. |

Oh, and re the AirGizmo, I was toying with trying to get one in my stack, but I'm already tight on space, and I actually decided I liked the unit better on the yoke. One issue is flying in turbulence: reaching across to a unit witn an extended arm can make data entry tricky when you're getting thrown around, whereas having it on the yoke makes it much easier to keep your hands steady. I had a heck of a job entering a waypoint into my KLN-94 the other week during some nasty bumps, so I just put it in the 396 and went direct using that until things had calmed down a little! |

Thanks Mike. I know what you mean about twisting knobs and punching buttons
in turbulence... why is it that when ever things get bumpy you're never near one of your "last used" waypoints so you can't just pull the small knob and turn it to the waypoint you need?! Sorry I'll probably miss you at OSH and you'll miss the rec.party. It would be fun to double team the Honeywell/King/Bendix/NewName/WhoAreWe Reps! Jim "Mike Granby" wrote in message ups.com... Ahh that's right, you've got them both wired in... cool setup.
