Default Mooney M20M down near RDU (Raleigh Durham)

The newspapers are reporting a Mooney crashed a few miles from RDU (that's
North Carolina, USA) -- mid afternoon Monday, conditions looked like soft IFR.
At least one dead, total number on board has not been disclosed yet.

Bystanders claim to have heard engine noise before the crash. I think the
conditions at the airport were something like 1800 feet, 2..5 miles in light
rain.

The plane clipped some trees, then crashed into what's said to be a shallow
pond, and it's said to be in many pieces.

Pause a moment in regret if you will -- we've lost another who now may be
closer than we are to have touched the face of God.

Take a read of rec.aviation.owning. In that group a pilot just posted that
this accident was literally in his back yard.
