Default New type of Flight Recorder gains IGC-approval

New type of Flight Recorder gains IGC-approval.

The SaFly GNSS Flight Recorder manufactured by the DSX company (www.d-
s-x.net), has gained IGC-approval with effect from 31 August 2011.
The approval level is for badge flights up to and including the three
Diamonds, and other flights that are covered by this level of IGC-
approval under rules for other flight performances such as
competitions. For IGC-approval levels, see para 1.1.4 of Annex B to
the Sporting Code for gliding. This Flight Recorder also includes a
satellite-based tracking system that enables its position to be
monitored by a ground station.

This brings the number of IGC-approved Flight Recorders to 49 types,
from 19 different manufacturers.

The IGC-approval document will be available on the FAI/IGC web page:
www.fai.org/gliding/IGC_approved_frs
Note: This may not be until about 15 September because the FAI web
pages are being completely revised after difficulties with web links
that followed the move of the FAI Secretariat to a larger office in
Lausanne. Meanwhile the document is available from or
from the GFAC Chairman at the email address below.

IGC-approval follows test and evaluation by the IGC GNSS Flight
Recorder Approval Committee (GFAC) in accordance with Annex B to the
Sporting Code for gliding and the Technical Specification for IGC-
approved GNSS Flight Recorders.
See:
http://www.fai.org/gliding/system/fi...1-3-31_al6.pdf
and http://www.fai.org/gliding/system/fi..._spec_gnss.pdf

After the FAI web page revision later this month, for a table of all
existing IGC-approval documents, see:
http://www.fai.org/gliding/system/fi...proved_frs.pdf
Note: Due to the difficulties on the FAI web pages mentioned earlier,
the link to this document is currently not available but will be
restored after about 15 September when the new FAI web pages are
expected to be on-line.
This document is in PDF document and contains:
(1) a table of all types of IGC-approved Flight Recorders, in
alphabetical order of manufacturer name
(2) a table of Manufacturers, in alphabetical order of manufacturer
name
(3) a list of all IGC-approval activity from 1996 to the present day
(4) a short history of IGC GNSS Flight Recording
