Tiedown Stakes (Article in SportAv.) by Jim Weir
Sport Aviation (EAA Magazine), April issue, pages 110-112. The article shows a system of metal rod-stakes and the 3-part chain with the repair link in the middle. The article goes into some detail on how to make a 3-part chain with a repair link (pretty trivial to figure that out) but...

I'm building a carbon fiber airplane and understand that the carbon is too opaque to radio signals to use antennas inside the carbon. (The wing tips are E-Glass and come with navigation antennas already installed.) For communication, marker beacon, and transponder antennas, I'm wondering why...

Does anyone here know if / what-section-of FAR rules govern the operation of "ground effect" vehicles? Specifically, how high can a machine fly AGL before its technically classified as an aircraft and not a hovercraft, hydroplane-boat, Ecronoplan, etc.? Is there a loophole for a powered...

Nut/thread securing compound by nauga
Eugene Wendland wrote... Does anyone know what compound is used to secure the nuts and threads on aviation engines? Sounds like you're talking about inspection lacquer. It's not really a securing compound, it just chips and flakes if the material moves. Wicks has it (www.wicksaircraft.com),...

Robin Williams World Peace Plan by Fastglasair
This may very well be the best thought out item we have read since 9/11/01. Leave it to Robin Williams to come up with the perfect plan ... what we need now is for our UN Ambassador to stand up and repeat this message. I see a lot of people yelling for peace but I have not heard of a plan...

Engine Mount Tilt and Offset by Barrie Gittens
I am planning to install a subaru (170HP) in my C-120 on floats.I realize that the offset of the engine should be 3 to 4 degrees but the tilt I am not so sure of. The extra thrust should cause a reduction from the original 85 HP application; I should think. Any suggestions out there.

Headset connections (attn: Jim Weir) by Bruce
I have a question I'm hoping you may be able to answer based on a Kitplanes article (Dec 1997) I came across concerning the topic. As part of an upgrade program in the Flight Simulation Lab here at the University of Toronto, we purchased a new helmet mounted display system. This helmet includes an...

Hi All, I bought the above radio on Ebay for the ultralight that I am building. Anyway, I'm hoping that I didn't do anything dumb in choosing this older radio. I didn't receive any pin out information from the guy that sold it to me, and I'm assuming that he just plugged a newer set into the...
