Skin Game by

Skin Game
Working out back of the shop under the shed roof. I'm cold and in a lot of
pain. Khaki's, flannel shirt & a shop apron was warm enough when I started,
afternoon sun heating up the tin roof. Not too bad at all. Except for the
pain, which I pretend not to notice. Then the sun did it's...

Wingo BWB aircraft by
Neal Fulco
I think I posted this message to the wrong group, so if you see it
twice...my mistake. My question is: What's the status of the Wingo
blended wing aircraft. They haven't been updating their website. The
last photo posted shows "repairs" being made. Anybody know what
happened to the plane? ...

Kit plane boom with Sport Plane rules by
Dave
So, as I understand it, we are maybe a little over 60 days from the new
sport plane rules coming back from the OMB and hitting the federal
register and becoming 'the rules'.
Have I missed the discussion on 'professionally assembled' kits being
sold to the public? That is, as I understand it, to...

Downloading Flying Music? by
Jay Honeck
We've got the PS Engineering CD/Intercom in our plane, and listen to CDs on
long trips.
I am obviously slipping into "dinosaur" status, as I have never downloaded
music, for "burning" onto a blank CD. I *have* burned CDs, but I've always
done it from tracks played off of another CD.
Does anyone...

Adjustable seats by
Evan Carew
I am finishing up my KIS Tr-1 aircraft & am curious if anyone out there
has experimented with adjustable seats in their aircraft. I have heard
that you can get such hardware from auto parts manufacturers, but I
don't know how to evaluate them, or how to specify what might be needed.
Any help or...

Aluminum instrument panel finish? by
Richard Riley
I've just finished machining my instrument panel. It is (I say with
no small pride) nice. Milled out of 2024T3 3" thick, reduced to .120
with .120 webs between each instrument and around the perimeter.
Now the question is: how should it be finished? Polished? Engine
turned? Anodized? Clear...

Heat treating wing ribs by
Holger Stephan
Here is a question I am asking for a friend. He bought these 2024-T0 wing
ribs and wants to have them heat treated. He is in near L.A., CA and
couldn't find a shop that would do anything thinner than .04".
Does any of you know how to heat treat formed ribs and possibly know a shop
in the L.A....

Water-borne barrier coat by
larsen-tools
I lifted this from another NG and was wondering how it would work as an
aircraft primer......
"Find a local automotive paint supplier.
See if they have something called "Water-Born Barrier Coat"
That is what PPG calls it.
It is a water based primer used to paint over existing car finishes.
The...

Driving sheet-metal screws into 4130 by
Grandpa B.
Greetings, all.
I'm restoring a Champ, and have a question about driving screws into a
drilled 4130 tube.
If I drill the proper sized hole, the screws refuse to 'take'; they simply
give up their threads to the harder metal of the tube. If I over-size the
hole, then the screw won't hold diddley...

LSA Approach speeds by
Ace Pilot
During some hangar flying, the question was raised if there were any
potential LSA (light sport aircraft: max level speed 115 knots, VS0
39 knots, max weight 1,232 lbs., limited to 2 seats, etc.) with
approach speeds equal to or above 55 knots. I couldn't come up with
any, but I thought...

Alodyning skins and large sheets by
Ed Wischmeyer
Anybody have any favorite techniques for doing big pieces? I've not been
able to find any alodyne tanks locally, and I've only got a gallon each
of aluminum cleaner (phosphoric acid) and alodyne. The option is to use
a self-etching primer on the inside.

For Jim Weir: Transponder Installation by
Ron Wanttaja
Hey, Jim, I've bought a Microair T2000 to replace the bum transponder in my
Fly Baby. A couple of questions:
1. The instructions say not to install the antenna within one meter of the
unit. What's the limiting factor here? I always prefer short cable runs,
and had a nice spot picked out 15 or...

Rogues Gallery (0/1) by
Badwater Bill
Quote:
"The major drawback to the newsgroups, however, is that they do not
allow the transmission of photos. As a result, we all operate in a
text-based, 2-dimensional world, never knowing what each other looks
like, never being able to "show off" our favorite flying machines."
Hey, Jim, Photos...

Patching Baffling, 3/32 C-Sunk Rivets, 1100 Aluminum? by
jls
Old baffles need upkeep in this neck of the woods. I was going to try my
hand at countersinking 3/32 rivets and hereby ask advice what is the best
way to press in the dimple, best tool too and where to buy it. Because on
the cylinder side of the baffle, like the opposite side of a plate nut,...

I posted a while back mentioning the resin infusion process that I am using
to build my catamaran sailboat. It seemed like there was a fair amount of
cross post interest here in this news group, so I am posting to say that I a
