Project update by
Dave Hyde
The 12-year saga of my RV-4 continues...
A while back I posted about running my engine for the
first time. Since then I've stuffed everything where
it belongs and had the airplane weighed. Turns out
I'm not going to have the CG problem I thought I would.
Came in at 952 pounds including oil, zero...

steel 4130 by
Philippe Vessaire
Hello,
when I read 90,000 lb/sqi for strength,
is it just before the part is broken or is it the elastic limit?
Thanks

Custom Planes type? by
Corrie
In the Oct. Custom Planes article on VW crackshafts, it seems that the
text and the chart do not agree. The text says that 1 and 4 are the
paired cylinders. According to the chart, though (based on the
description of 'paired' in the text), 1 and 3 should be paired.
Am I having a premature senior...

Anyone have experience with InterAv alternator by
flyer
We have one in our Glasair and I have never been really impressed
with it's output. Seems to run around 13.1 volts most of the time
except for
right after engine start. The ammeter does indicate a net flow of
current INTO the battery. That might seem all right but when I start
putting...

Rare aircraft types photographed by
Bob
I came across a photoguide to aircraft in the UK, it's not well advertised
so you may not have seen it. http://www.ukskies.co.uk. It's got hundreds
of aircraft types so it's worth a look.
Does anyone know of any other good sites?

What's a couple of good sources for Lycoming OH gaskets and parts. It looks
like Fresno Airparts and others like them only carry Continental.
Thanks

Mike Arnold's AR-5 Videotapes by
Larry Smith
If you ever get the chance to see these, do. This guy is a real craftsman,
and with the AR-5 he broke the 1 sq ft flat plate drag barrier, which at one
time was predicted to be unbreakable. He also took a world record away from
Germany and brought it back to the USA.
For you RV builders and...

Rounded elevator counterbalance leading edges by
Ed Wischmeyer
Anybody know of a reference on this on the web, or (gasp) even in print?
I know that there are some supposed advantages to this, as opposed to
having a squared off leading edge which fairs in perfectly when the
elevator is perfectly aligned with the stabilizer.
thanks

Homebuilts by State by
Ron Wanttaja
I got asked the question "how many homebuilts are in each state?" off-list,
but thought others might like to see this data. For best insight, paste
into a spreadsheet or database, then sort and plot as desired.
The data is from the January 2003 FAA database, and includes only those
aircraft...
