Oshkosh helicopters by
Stu Fields
Well there was a tip jet (70% H202) ship there with one pilot with 20 min
and a reported other pilot with a few hundred hours...
Sikorsky had a battery powered 269 on display with a duration spec of 15
min.
Safaris, Rotorways and Mosquitos and Larry Neals Butterfly wrapped up the
rotor craft.

Undersling and 2/rev by
Stu Fields
If an over weight pilot exceeds the recommended seat weight of his
helicopter, will this affect undersling enough to cause an increase in the
2/rev vibration??? Does increasing G forces cause an increase in 2/rev??

I have heard that there is a down loadable application for the Iphone that

You guys missed a good one. by
Stu Fields
Central Sierra Helicopter Meet was a grand success. There were a couple of
R-44s, several R-22s, Two Bell 47s and two Jet Rangers. With all of the
certified clutter out of the way, there were two helicycles flying, several
under construction showing the various aspects, a Mosquito flying all...

New coinage by
Stu Fields
I've coined a new acronym that stands for a principle often used in the
experimental helicopter community. I have named it NHFY. It stands for
None Have Failed Yet. It is a reliability measurement used by some that
certainly needs close examination to ascertain the validity. Some folks who...

More Helicopter Aerodynamics by Prouty by
Stu Fields
I'm looking for a used copy of Ray Prouty's More Helicopter Aerodynamics.
Also for the copy titled Even More Helicopter Aerodynamics. These issues
are required for a research project I'm doing for the Experimental Helo
magazine.
Thanks

credibiltiy by
Stu Fields
It seems that if there are two possible causes for a helicopter accident,
the preferred one for the manufacturer is the one for which they have no
fault. That certainly is the best for them. However, lets say that a low
hour helicopter suffers a failure directly attibutable to fatigue. ...

new post by
Stu Fields
I've been sending posts that didn't show up. I've been sending e-mails to
folks that never received. I've been receiving e-mails that I couldn't
answer. We just replaced the cmos battery so we'll see if this gets thru..

Zyglo T62 compressor and turbine wheels by
Stu Fields
Just completed checking the wheels of 84 Surplus Solar T-62 turbine engine
sets of wheels for cracks. Only found two turbine wheels with small cracks.
No cracks found in the compressor wheels. These engines seem to be quite
sturdy. We started several and looked at vibration levels with a...

Piasecki crash by
Stu Fields
Just got word of a Piasecki crash that involved Joe Pike and to other people
who were on board. Joe had re-stored the twin rotor ship. Initial data
seems to indicate an engine failure with the ship hitting power lines and
burning. Joe was an outstanding wrench and pilot. Joe did a BFR for me...

Volume II of Ray Prouty's Helicopter Aerodynamics by

I've got my copy of what turns out to be a

addition to the Volume I work of the same title. Few people can write
clearly about a technical subject like helicopters without using a lot of
mathematics. Ray Prouty has a real knack... I'm jealous....

PHOTOS: Rotorfest and PHL - October 04, 2009
Over 100 photos in this group. The highlight at Rotorfest for me was
the Kaman K-Max and the Pilatus Porter jump plane. The clouds moved in
briefly in the AM and gave us a short-lived scare, but they burned
off. Plenty of copters and GA aircraft,...

powered rotorcraft are being forced to generate some inspection program
documentation to get the airworthiness certificate. Nearly all of these...
