How airplanes are made. by
Lou
Has anyone seen the show "How It's Made"? It's on the Discovery
Channel. They had a segment on Diamond Aircraft.
It was quite interesting to show the fiberglass and carbon sections
being made and then assembled. They also showed the engine install
and some avionics. Unfortunatly it was extremly...

Gluing rubber pieces by
[email protected]
Trying to repair the foot on the extension laddder I use
in the hangar.
It needs a new rubber foot.
I'm riviting a 1/4" piece or rubber to the aluminum foot.
Then I want to glue a 1/8" piece to the that to cover the
rivet heads.
So the glue joint would mostly be in compression and would

Right wing extremist large aircraft threaten our lives... by
Jim Logajan
There's a big deal being made about DHS issuing a warning profiling pretty
much anyone who desires smaller federal government. I was reading some of
the angry blogs and found an interesting tie-in to aviation. On the
following web site, there is a link to a video about mid-page titled "Janet...

Losing a wing in flight? by
cavelamb himself[_4_]
I can't decide.
Did this really happen?
Or is it doctored?
Too much important stuff happens off screen, and the landing
doesn't look real.

Plexiglas cement?? by
Larry
I am planning a "touchy" repair job to my canopy. I've done some test
sheet acrylic bondings with acrylic IPS Weld-On (#16). I don't like
the ugly bubbles and noticed some fine plexiglas stress cracking on
one test piece. Is there another sort of cement (eg. Weld-On #40)
which would make for a...

White lead & castor oil on prop shaft? by
wright1902glider
While attempting to distract myself from 8 hours of filing documents
on Friday, I Youtubed up the Republic / Air Corps training film on how
to field assemble the P-47 Thunderbolt. (Where I work, that's called
multi-tasking.) In the film, they describe coating the prop shaft of
the R-2800 with the...

Control surface design question by
Chris W
I'm sure everyone here is familiar with the combination of the
horizontal stabilizer and elevator to make a stabilator. I think I have
even heard of the concept being used for a ruder. My question is has
anyone ever made a plane taking the concept all the way and made a
"wingeron"? My guess...

O2 sensor? by
Blueskies
Saw this posted to the Lycoming group, and it sounds like a pretty good idea. Anybody heard of it?
"A friend flying an IO-360 powered Glasair installed an oxygen sensor
system that has an panel mounted indicator light to show when balanced
combustion is reached. He simply adjusts mixture until the...

IVO props... comments.. by
Dave S
I am involved with the building of a velocity, and questions are flying
around about propeller choice. For in-flight adjustable, we are limited
at this time to an electric control, such as MT or IVO. Cost is pushing
our options in this area towards the IVO.
I have heard of some vibration/resonance...

Sorry if this is a duplicate. I just went to check my last post, and it said
it was no longer available on the server. ?
Hey guys, I've been lurking around here for quite a while to get an
education. I'm building a project that could use a little expert guidance.
I am making a paintball tank....

AMT question: Approved Data by
Mark
Hello.
I am studying for my O&Ps and I have a question about "approved data" and
"acceptable data."
I understand that the manufacturer's maintenance manual is only considered
"acceptable data," and is therefore not approved for use in making major
repairs or major alterations.
So let's suppose I...

Sloshing compound is failing by
Tim Hickey
I guess that it has been at least 18 years since I build the fuel
tanks for my CH-300. They are of welded aluminum construction, and
were sloshed with Randolph's sloshing sealer. The Alcohol resistant
type, if I remember correctly.
Today I drained the tanks so I can replace the fuel selector...

Well then, what about trailing antenna's? by
john wier
If the big aluminum foil ears on a whip antenna doesn't help, what
about those trailing wire antenna's that are trailed back behing the
aircraft a good distance. I've seen them on Aero Commanders (500
series). I might hook up a spool of wire and one of those drag devices
that pull it out the tail...

RAH newsgroup by

I know Google says their groups site is easier to use since they
revamped it, so I guess I'm missing something. The only way I can find
RAH now is because I had a shortcut to it from before the time of the
"improvement." When I look up alt.rec, there is no subcategory called
"alt.rec.aviation.,...

Sport Pilot inconsistency by
frustrated flier
I am unclear on two Sport Pilot issues: First, a new pilot may qualify
for a Sport Pilot ticket even though he or she takes a medication that
would preclude a 3rd class medical. However, an experienced pilot with
a higher ticket may not operate as a Sport Pilot if he lost a medical
last year for...
